Remember me.
I'm going to be so sad when I can't use this icon any more.
I know some people were bored by the reunion nonsense but I don't think I can ever get enough of Rory and Amy having adrenaline-fueled, inappropriate corridor make-outs. Hopefully from here on out they can finally, finally learn to have grown-up conversations and stop constantly jumping to the worst possible conclusions. Or at least they'd better; I can't remember the last time I was so invested in a canon couple getting their happy ending.
Hands down the best dalek episode we've had since...well, "Dalek." The dalek nanotech hollowing people out was the creepiest trick we've seen from them since "El-e-vate" - and poor Harvey, that slow realization ("I forgot about dying...") before the programming kicked in.
And of course the highlight of the episode, clever, clever Oswin. This is one of those rare times where being just slightly spoiled enough paid off because I almost fell off my chair when I saw the new companion episodes before I'd expected. Or her face, anyway, and since this is the first time this trick (which neWho loves, see Gwen, Martha, Amy) has been used in the same season as the new companion's debut, and certainly the first time the "audition" role's been so central, I'm doubly engaged with the season to see how the new companion will tie in with Oswin. "Remember me" indeed.
And oh, Oswin. We've seen daleks who were actually converted humans before (and interesting that some daleks are still doing that, when the God Emperor started that it had been framed as a desperation tactic) but we've never seen someone resist it to this degree. With Cyberman, yes, but not daleks, and that scene jumping between her constructed dream and the dalek reality was wonderfully tense - especially the voice changing. Brr.
And clever, clever girl, hitting the reset button on the Oncoming Storm (and how happy did it make my 9 fangirl heart to hear that name again?) She both freed the Doctor from their nonsense for at least a little while (since at least they won't specifically be going out of their way to target him) and weakened in the race in one fell swoop, since it was explicitly said that fighting with the Doctor was what had made them so strong.
(And a quick continuity question: Hadn't it been stated that Skarro was destroyed? Interesting.)
Good start, S7!
