Oh, frabjous day!

A friend donated a cord to connect my Vader (my laptop) to the TV. Never again do I have to worry about whether a disk I've burned will play in my DVD player!

We were short people to play Star Wars last night, so we went and saw G.I. Joe instead. I am relieved to say that I liked it (with reservations, see below); not anywhere near the same quality bracket as Star Trek or Watchmen but better than Wolverine: Origins and so much better than Transformers 2 that it was like they were made on different planets. Some reactions:

The Good!

1) The opening with Destro's ancestor filled me with fangirl glee. That one scene set my mind at ease that they were at least attempting to respect the comic book backstory (which even the cartoon doesn't do!)

2) Do I even have to say that I loved CE in this? He when from menacing to wrathful to lovelorn effortlessly, sometimes all within the same scene. And I loved loved loved that he pulled out a brogue for the role, how they worked in the history with the mask.

3) "I've finally taken my place in Clan MacCullen." Oh, honey. I know you were delrious, but that was nowhere near a sane reaction.

4) Speaking of not sane, the reveal the Dr. Mind Bender was actually Cobra Commander was pretty masterful. I really liked the, "Yes, it is beautiful," reaction in the bunker.

5) Storm Shadow's "Damn, woman!" look after he kills her husband and says, "I told you I was to kill him if he touched you again," and she just responds, "Yeah, I know what you said."

6) Zartan was creepy and awesome and perfect, even if he didn't have his hood.

7) wee!Snake Eyes and wee!Storm Shadow were wee and adorable. And I loved seeing the kid from Tropic Thunder again.

8) Destro kissing Baroness (even if she did it mostly to screw with Duke) and Scarlett hanging on Snake Eyes filled me with fangirl glee. I squeed.

9) I loved all of the little references, like Breaker popping gum and Heavy Duty saying "Yo Joe!"

The Bad!

1) Ripcord needs to keep his eyes to himself. No breaking up my Scarlett/Snake Eyes OTP. (Although Rip being so deep in Guy Love with Duke helped. It's nice to see that Don't Ask, Don't Tell gets repealed in the future.:)

2) I wasn't crazy about the reveal that Baroness was evil because Commander had mind controlled her or that she changed sides at the end. I mean, she does that all the time in the comics and if there's a sequel there's plenty of time for her to betray them, but I really like a Baroness who is evil because it's fun and has ice water instead of blood.

3) I hated the blurry camera work during the actions scenes. Especially during the big Storm Shadow/Snake Eyes fight scene, I just wanted the camera to stay freaking still and let me watch the fight.

4) I didn't like the molded mouth on Snake Eyes, and I really didn't like Commander's mask. No good. Try again.

Guys. Guys. We got the trailer for the new Scorsese flick Shutter Island last night. It is the new hotness.

Creepy, claustrophobic period ghost story set in an insane asylum? I am so there. I wanted to see this nine times even before Jackie Earle Haley showed up.
