Finally saw the Reboot!Nightmare on Elm Street last night and I actually really enjoyed it. I know, the blasphemy.
That's not to say I think it really hung together as a movie all that well, or that it even worked at all if you hadn't seen the original. In fact, I think it's the first reboot/remake/whathaveyou I'm ever seen that that actually seemed to ask you to compare it to the original. The deliberate tweaks to the mythos, the character alternations, they don't really work unless you know they're tweaks.
Speaking of the mythos: I really think the writers wussed out by revealing that Freddy was guilty after all. That was a really interesting shift when it looked like the Elm Street parents had witch hunted him unjustly and it fit with the way Freddy was acting. Original Flavor!Freddy never left any doubt about his guilt; the man revealed in his own wickedness. Becoming a horrible dream demon was awesome as far as he was concerned. In contrast, Reboot!Freddy is supremely pissed off about being dead. That kind of unholy rage makes a lot more sense thematically and emotionally from an innocent man roasted alive than the, frankly, banal sort of monster he turned out to be. Original!Freddy made sense turning into a demon --- he was already halfway there (has anyone see the first episode of the Nightmare On Elm Street series? You've never seen such evil, smirking glee.)
I feel like the chance to do something really interesting was missed. An innocent man essentially saying fuck it and turning into the monster he was always accused of being would have been an interesting boogeyman, separate from Robert Englund's peerless, cackling horrorshow.
That disappointment aside, the movie really looked great (although no where near as gory as the original, what is with that?) And man, did this have some geektastic casting. Look, Impulse is making eyes at the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo! John Connor's glaring because Ruby's left him for...um, that vampire guy from Twilight who's name escapes me! (Katie Cassidy's love interest being named Dean was immensely distracting.)
My favorite scenes: the micronap sequence with Freddy stalking Nancy through the supermarket was really well done, and I liked Freddy tormenting Thomas Dekker's character, especially his palpable boredom when the little punk went fetal before Freddy even touched him.:) And the scare scene at the very end with Nancy's mom was better than the original's, IMO.

Gah. All my writings are coming out stupid today. Work, stupid words!

Has some enterprising SPN fan made an angsty Dean/Cas vid to Sara Bareilles' "Gravity"? Because really, someone should.
(Something always brings me back to you. It never takes too long.
No matter what I say or do I'll still feel you here 'til the moment I'm gone.
You hold me without touch.
You keep me without chains.
I never wanted anything so much than to drown in your love and not feel your rain.
[CHORUS:]
Set me free, leave me be. I don't want to fall another moment into your gravity.
Here I am and I stand so tall, just the way I'm supposed to be.
But you're on to me and all over me.
You loved me 'cause I'm fragile.
When I thought that I was strong.
But you touch me for a little while and all my fragile strength is gone.
[CHORUS]
I live here on my knees as I try to make you see that you're everything I think I need here on the ground.
But you're neither friend nor foe though I can't seem to let you go.
The one thing that I still know is that you're keeping me down
You're on to me, on to me, and all over...
Something always brings me back to you.
It never takes too long.
