Before we get down to business, for anyone who missed it I posted two fics this past week: Dance With Your Ghost (Dean/2014!Cas) and Terms Of Service (Dean/Cas AU based on the fairy tale "The Elves And The Shoemaker." And written for [profile] dc_dystopia so y'know, cavet lector and all that.:) I've been rolling around in the comments for both of those like a happy puppy for the past few days, so thank all of you super much. You're awesome. ♥

Now back to the meme I will apparently never finish!

Day 08 - A show everyone should watch

Okay, the right answer to this is Homicide: Life on the Streets (best cop show ever!*) or Babylon 5 (loooooooooooove!) or maybe MST3K so you will understand why I'm singing about Puma Man and how he flies like a moron. Those are the right answers!

But I'm so in love with Arrow right now I don't care.:) I swear to all of you, this show has gotten really, really good. Fast-paced plotting and good action sequences and a really well developed villain. If he even is a villain, because I'm not even sure any more! And an actually compelling conspiracy plot, which is worth its weight in diamonds. I don't know if the writers can keep this pace up over multiple seasons, but this is a great ride. And that goes double if you have any appreciation for the DC universe, because love for the DCU is built into this show's bones.

No one is more surprised by this than me! I went in expecting a cheesy substitution for Smallville, which for its first three seasons was the show of my heart, but Arrow's already so much better than Smallville ever was. I want this show to have a ridiculously big fandom that writes all the fic.

ARROW!

(*Yes, yes, The Wire, but that's not a pure procedural the way Homicide is. And also I haven't see The Wire.)

Rest of the days )
misachan: (Bofur)
But before we get back to that thing we all forgot I was doing, look! Shiny!

So much fun with this last year. All of the fun of a comment ficathon with a super teeny tiny commitment.

(And a special enticement (maybe?) to Arrow fans: I am pledging right now to fill any and all* Slade/Ollie prompts to this. Because dammit, it's hiatus and we need to get our fic on before canon inevitably does what canon does.)

*Unless someone posts, like 30 prompts in a row. Not cool, hypothetical jerk who would do that.

Slade/Ollie

(Prompts can be filled by more than one person, so I'm not hogging the prompts or anything. Just making a solemn promise.:)

Day 07 - Least favorite episode of your favorite TV show

I'm really forgiving of shows I love. There are episodes of Supernatural and Doctor Who I love more than others but I've never felt like an episode was a complete waste of time. There's always one scene, a great line, something that saves it (I mean, the ghost truck episode is no one's favorite but I miss conversations that didn’t start with “this killer truck” is fantastic.) So those two are out. And the episodes of BSG the fandom tends to disdain, like the black market episode or the union strike episode were the ones I really liked because I was much more watching the humans rebuild their society than the Cylon politics.

Love the first season of B5, even the episodes that are admittedly super clunky.

Even the series finale of Smallville which I 95% hated hated hated had that one perfect scene.

So like I said, I'm pretty easy going. It's not hard for me to find something to love in even subpar episodes.

Except for the $#&^$# tattoo episode of Lost. Toss that into the fire and watch it burn.

(Special runner up for every time Q showed up on Voyager. Seriously, the hell was that?)

Rest of the days )
misachan: (Conviction)
For anyone who missed it, I'm doing the WiP meme here!

Day 06 - Favorite episode of your favorite TV show

Ha. Ahahahahahaha, yeah no. Here, have my favorite episode from multiple favorite shows:

Doctor Who: Dalek. (Classic Who: The Mind Robber)

Supernatural: On The Head Of A Pin. Or The Rapture. Or The Man Who Would Be Thing. Or A Very Supernatural Christmas. Or Mystery Spot. Or...I'll get back to you.

Lost: The Constant. (If anyone ever tells you they have a different favorite episode, they are lying.)

Heroes: Company Man. Jesus, that episode. Or Five Years Gone.

Star Trek: Amok Time! Or Balance Of Terror, they're such different episodes it's hard to choose.

Babylon 5: Interludes And Examinations (not the one you'll usually hear B5 fans pick, but I'm a crying mess every time.)

Adventures of Sherlock Holmes (Granada): Norwich Builder or The Blue Carbuncle (which does have hands-down my favorite string of deductions.)

Rome: 33. My heart, you guys.

Justice League Unlimited: Double Date.

And since it was my pick for favorite show, MST3K: Manos: the Hands Of Fate. But really, there's no bad there. Except for Sidehackers. (*shakes fist at Sidehackers*)

Rest of the days )
misachan: (Nat)
I changed the sheets on the bed, took the old ones down the basement to the washing machine and by the time I got back up the stairs Lexi was stretched out on the bed all Ahhhhhhhhhh. T shirt material sheets from Target: Cat approved.

Day 05 - A show you hate

I don't hatewatch as a general rule but my God, did I hate the recent reboot of V. Haaaaaaated it, and I wanted to like to so much because I loved the original. And it had Morena Baccarin and Alan Tudyk and Elizabeth Mitchell! I like all those people! How bad can it really be?

So, so bad. Glacial pace plotting, sets so badly CGIed you could practically see the pixels, a human rebellion so inept they would be laughed out of a Syfy original movie and set in NYC despite having a cast so white there were two black characters. And one of them was actually a lizard alien.

Bah.

Honorable mention to American Diggers, which I haven't actually seen but hate in solidarity with [personal profile] peachpai. And apparently there's a spin off now? Whatever, Spike.

Rest of the days )

From [personal profile] morganoconner: WIP buttkick: these are titles/brief descriptions of my active WIPs. Pick one and I'll write you 100 or more new words for it. Or give a sneak peek, since I'm all ~deadline panic~ this weekend. Order is completely arbitrary.

Note: Does not include fics already signed up for challenges (so adding those would make this an even 20 21. Missed one.) I'm defining WiP here as something I have a file for or went to the trouble of outlining. Which I have apparently done a lot, because Long List Is Long. Mostly SPN and some Avengers, which one lonely Heroes fic because I will write that some day.

The list! )
misachan: (Default)
Oliver Queen's definition of "alone" (as in "I was alone on the Island for five years") is, um. Suspect.:) Also, fandom, I have a mission for you! Everyone needs to write me spoilers for tonight's Arrow )

Day 04 - Your favorite show ever

This is an impossible question. How does anyone answer this question?

Um.

Okay, let's bypass the usual suspects (because I cannot pit Doctor Who, Supernatural, Babylon 5, Homicide, the first 3 seasons of Smallville, Star Trek etc. against each other for ownership of my heart) and go for the show which has probably episode-for-episode brought me more joy than any other: Mystery Science Theater 3000.

PU-MA MAN, HE FLIES LIKE A MORON!

I'm gonna go see if I still have the Manos: The Hands Of Fate theme techno remix on my computer and rock out for a while. 'Scuse me.

Rest of the days )
misachan: (Default)
Ugh, writing. How do you work?

Day 02 - A show that you wish more people were watching

ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN! C'mon, people. It is adorable and the first season is streaming on Netflix. Marvel high school AU! Coulson undercover as the school principal (and taking the job really seriously!) Fury being a BAMF superspy! Danny and Luke and Sam and Ava! Fantastic versions of MJ and Harry and Norman and Aunt May! There really is no bad here.

I really love this show and wish everyone else loved it too. I can't wait for S2 to hit netflix so I can marathon it the way I did S1.

Rest of the days )
misachan: (Default)
Just finished shoveling off the steps and making something resembling a path (one of the joys of renting is that I'm not responsible for the whole sidewalk!) We got...not quite a foot, I would say? It's hard to tell with how the plows pushed everything around. Could be a lot worse and nowhere near as bad as the mess a couple of Halloweens ago.

*hugs to everyone buried out there*

Let's have a meme.

Day 01 - A show that should never have been canceled

Firefly is too easy and Young Justice is too raw, so let's go for an old one: Space: Above And Beyond. A Sci-fi show by Glen Morgan and James Wong, it centered on a group of rookie space marines forced into the front lines when the aliens Earth's at war with tear through the experienced units. Like B5 it had a five year plan but because it was on Fox it only got one and the last episode ended with all but two of the cast either grievously injured or in mortal peril. Thanks, Fox!

As a warning, you will not like the first four episodes. I didn't like the first four episodes, and I love this show. And I hated the main character. It gets so much better. Great female characters (Vansen especially), surprising, morally twisty plotting, all the characters develop (the main character I initially hated, while never becoming my favorite, got much more sympathetic) and I LOVED how they did the AIs. And T.C. McQueen will make your heart all achy.

Runner up: Human Target, which not only got cancelled but got completely messed with for an entire season and got the rug pulled out from under it just as it was finding its feet again. Thanks, Fox! *grumbles*

Rest of the days )

And now is the time for the making of pancakes and the watching of Project Runway, and then the writing of All The Words so I can finally get this monkey off my back (and then replace it with different monkey. There is always a monkey.)

Memage.

Man, I started to do the Year End Writing meme and I am just not up to all that masterpost wrangling and linking. Tomorrow!

So let's have the TV Meme instead:

Which TV shows did you start watching in 2012?

Once Upon A Time and The Walking Dead. (Sort of? I watched random first season episodes for both only really got into them in their second seasons.) Oh, and Ultimate Spider-Man! ETA: I COMPLETELY FORGOT ABOUT ARROW! ♥Arrow!♥

Which TV shows did you let go of in 2012?

Dexter. (Deb, what have they done to you?)

Which TV shows did you mean to get into but didn't in 2012? Why?

Elementary. I really liked the first episode but it's on a busy night and now I'm too behind. It was me show, not you! I'll catch up with you after the season.

Which TV shows do you intend on checking out in 2013?

It's become increasingly obvious to me that I need to get into Person Of Interest with all possible speed. It looks like it hits so many of my narrative kinks that I don't know what's been wrong with me all this time (specifically a lot of the ones Clint/Coulson also hit for me.) And ♥ Michael Emerson! ♥ (On a PoI note, have you read this story from Yuletide? Holy cats, so good. SO GOOD!)

And I should probably get around to watching Teen Wolf at some point or [livejournal.com profile] morganoconner might show up at my house.:)

Which TV show impressed you least in 2012?

Um. I dunno? I'm pretty happy with the ones I picked up. Oh, Suits! (sorry, Suits fans. I just can't. I keep trying to watch and all I can think about is the lives that will be ruined if/when the secret comes out.)

Which TV show did you enjoy the most in 2012?

Doctor Who, SPN, Once Upon A Time (so much better the second season!), Walking Dead (♥Daryl!♥)

This has been a very bad, no good weekend for big bang writing, so I gave myself permission to play hookey today and write schmoopy comment fic for

Go! Prompt! Fill! (It's for charity!)

OMG WALKING DEAD )
misachan: (on the other side)
I was going to wait to post about Walking Dead until I had some more [livejournal.com profile] sncross_bigbang words so I could throw the word count meter up there too, but I CANNOT.

Scattered, not so coherent reactions: )
misachan: (chibi dean/cas)
And the [livejournal.com profile] super_disney fic is finished! Done! Crossed off the list! (well, not done, done, you all know what I mean.) End word count clocked in at just over 18K (Jesus). For a challenge with a 1500 word minimum. Because my brain.

But now I can move on to siccing hellhounds on the White Collar crew (mwahahaha!) and whittling that monster outline down. How many words will that one wind up? Who knows? Certainly not me, because God knows I can never tell. *throws up hands*

***

I posted my [livejournal.com profile] jimmybigbang story yesterday! *throws confetti* The bones of this story had been sitting on my hard drive for so long now that I thought it would wind up being one of those stories I always thought I'd like to write but never actually would, so it felt so good to get it out there. And people are saying nice things! Posting something long is always just that tiny extra level of nerve wracking because there's that gap between posting and the first comment, just long enough for it to start crawling around in your brain before you sit yourself down and remind yourself, "Oh right, people actually have to read it first." And then you feel silly.

I've perhaps said too much.:)

Anyway, that people like it makes me want to hug the world because I think Jimmy Novak is a superhero and I wanted to write something so everyone else could see that too. (I love his family in general. I've written three generations of Novaks now, since I had his dad show up in Semper Fi.)

(And if you don't want to read it, it's cool! But please at least tell [livejournal.com profile] lennymechs how pretty the art is, because I love it and I want the whole world to love it too.)

*hugs world*

I think it's just about time for the annual Babylon 5 rewatch.

Yes. Yes, I believe it is.

ETA: Oh hell. I posted that before seeing that Jeff Conaway just passed away at 60. Rest in peace, Zack.
misachan: (Guerrero)
It's that time of year again!

Photobucket

That's right! It's May! That beautiful time of year when Fox takes time out of its busy schedule to remind us that we can't have nice things!

Here's the list of the dead so far:

Breaking In
The Chicago Code
The Good Guys
Human Target
Lie To Me
Lone Star
Running Wilde
Traffic Light

I am flames on the side of my face angry about Human Target. First Fox retools my awesome little show, complete with installing a new showrunner, totally redesigning the sets, dropping the previous season's myth arc and adding two new characters in the same episode to what had been a three person cast, then after all that they cancel it just when the show was finding its feet again?

Fuck yoooooooooooou, Fox.

I was skipping [livejournal.com profile] apocalyptothon this year, but now I'm reconsidering so I can prompt the hell out of Human Target. Guerrero, Chance and Winston at the end of the world would be a blast.

(thanks to [livejournal.com profile] tzikeh for the lolFox)

And on the subject of fic, I'm officially at that point where I hate every word of this thing and wish I'd set it in a less fraught section of canon. (This happens with just about every story I write. Well, not the fraught canon thing, but let me sit on a fic and I eventually feel like every word is self-indulgent drivel.)

I'll post to the kink meme tonight (all kajillion parts of this thing.) Hopefully someone won't hate it.

***

On the subject of self-indulgence, if I finish the second story of my kink meme project tonight, and I should, I plan on posting an incredibly self-indulgent poll. I have a fic anniversary coming up in August and am contemplating a project to mark it.

ETA: GUYS. Misha. Priest outfit.

Would anyone out there know how to say "Don't blaspheme" in Mandarin Chinese? It, um, appears to be something I need to know. (Curse you, crossover theme on [livejournal.com profile] comment_fic!)

***

As some of you may have heard, ABC has decided to cancel All My Children and One Life to Live, a decision that fills me with so much rage I can barely string words together. Putting aside that these are shows that have been airing since before I was born and that I've been watching, in the case of OLTL, since I was ten, and let's also putting aside yet another sign that the TV industry cares so little for serialized storytelling, especially serialized storytelling traditionally aimed at women, that it's willing to cancel programs that have left deep marks on television history in favor of reality garbage that no one will remember five seconds after it airs, this is a potentially disastrous culling of one of the proven training grounds for young actors.

Want an example? Here's one that I think is relevant to most of our interests:

Gah. I miss my show already.
misachan: (Sentry)
Y'know, if No Ordinary Family get renewed while The Cape is canceled I will be so aggravated because both shows are completely ridiculous, but The Cape at least embraces its nonsense while no Ordinary Family insists every week This Is Serious Business We Are A Serious Show. And say what you will about The Cape, but at least it didn't take the entire frakking season for something to happen. The show's loopy, but at least it's never boring.

Also, it has carny science. CARNY SCIENCE!

Excuse me. I've had a day.

I had a dream last night I was watching a game show on what I guessed was Animal Planet. It was some variation of Wipe-Out; the contestants had picked out animals they wanted to adopt and if they got through the course the fees would be waived and they would receive free food and vet care for a year. There were the usual schmoopy videos featuring the contestants and the adorable animals, and I'm pretty sure one woman was talking to the (visible) ghost of her dead husband.

So that was odd. Although I would definitely watch that show. Even with the ghost.

A meme! from [livejournal.com profile] hako_neko

1. COMMENT WITH A MYSTERIOUS COMMENT OF YOUR CHOICE.
2. I will give you a letter.
3. Post the names of five fictional characters and your thoughts on each.

[livejournal.com profile] isilrandir gave me S.

Susan Ivanova: (Babylon 5) Always obey the Babylon 5 mantra: "Ivanova is always right. I will listen to Ivanova. I will not ignore Ivanova's recommendations. Ivanova is God. And if this ever happens again, Ivanova will personally rip your lungs out."

Simon Archard: (Ruse, CrossGen Comics) Simon is all of Sherlock Holmes worst character traits dialed up to eleven: he's arrogant, rude, incredibly impressed with himself and ruthlessly brilliant. His assistant is essentially a god and even that barely impresses him. I adored Ruse and Simon was my favorite character in CrossGen. Needless to say I'm over the moon that Marvel is restarting Ruse in a few months. Simon is going to break the world. It will be awesome.

Saitou Hajime: (Rurouni Kenshin) If they could create a character expressly for me, Saitou is what they would come up with. Principled and ruthless and defined by his personal definition of honor, Saitou is my favorite character in all of anime and he's easily in the top ten of favorite characters ever. And no one works a cigarette like him.

Sarah: (The Crow) Oh, my girl. You can't imagine how distraught I was when I saw Crow 2 and witnessed what they did to my street-smart, caring, brave little kid. The idea of her mentoring a new Crow was a good one --- I just wish the execution hadn't been so wretched.

Seth Bullock: (Deadwood) I love conflicted lawfuls. You show me a character who's trying hard to deny his impulse to make things right, who just want the world to leave them be, who's torn between what they've been told and what they feel (oh hi, Cas), and I am there. Bullock spends the entire first season trying desperately to not be Deadwood's sheriff --- except that he leads the posse after Wild Bill's killer, continually butts heads with the town's criminal elements and can't keep his nose out of everyone's business. By the end of the season it's clear to everyone that he's the only man for the job --- and then Bullock's real problems start.:)

Three of my loves: Deadwood, Tombstone and Brian Kinney on QAF. So you could imagine that when Gale Harold showed up on Deadwood playing Wyatt Earp I was all a-squee. I really liked show's the dark take on Wyatt and Morgan; one of my biggest disappointments with how the show "ended" was that we never got any resolution on that storyline. I would have paid good money to have had a "The Earps and Doc Holliday raise hell in Deadwood" story.

http://l-userpic.livejournal.com/98857000/1380759

Oh, Guerrero. I still haven't posted about that last episode, but I'm still all "oh, my heart about it. *Sigh* Needless to say, Guerrero is my favorite character and I like the framing of this shot.

Kosh. Kosh is my favorite character on B5, another in a long line of cryptic mentor figures living in my heart. spoilers )

My OTP! These two had me the moment she called him "Baby Doll." Fun and flirty and hopelessly head over heels for each other. This is also my general Squee! icon.

http://l-userpic.livejournal.com/103367571/1380759

The Crow is one of my favorite movies. I saw it for the first time at 14 in an empty theater and cried my eyes out, and it still hits me every time I see it. Eric lighting up the fire crow after taking out T-Bird is such a striking visual and just a gorgeous shot.

I discovered a new drabble comm! [livejournal.com profile] slashthedrabble! I belonged to a Heroes drabble comm back when that fandom was more active and always had a lot of fun with it. Public service announcement! Instead of just pushing things back a week Fox is showing Wednesday's Human Target episodes tonight. When I have game. These had better show up on my On Demand at the speed of light.

Especially the second episode.

I enjoy all the bickering between Hank and Tony in the new Avengers cartoon. An example:

Hank Pym: I'm not judging you, I'm just saying you value business and money over people.

Tony Stark: How is that not judging me?

Bwah. I hope they're like that in the movie.
