Digressing slightly, it saddens me that Michael Emerson isn't from the UK and so will almost certainly never get to play the Master. What I wouldn't give to have him opposite Matt Smith's Doctor.

Fox renewed my show! My shoooooooooooooooow! Another season of improbable action scenes, BSG cameos and weekly felonies!

I'm actually thrilled with a Fox decision. This is a strange and wondrous new world.

Thinking about alt-timelines has made me realize the one way DC could bring me all the way back: reveal that Superboy Prime punching the prison walls not only switched dead!Jason with alive-and-surly!Jason, but switched our Maxwell Lord with some other, more evil universe's (probably the Crime Syndicate's Earth, considering his feelings about meta-humans.) All would be forgiven if we found out our Max has been stranded there all this time, trying to survive and wondering why his friends haven't come to rescue him.

Yeah, I thought I'd come to grips with the Max-turns-to-the-Dark-Side thing, but clearly not.

Eight years ago the sun still felt like August and there wasn't a cloud in the sky. Today is cold and raining and windy, and it feels so much more appropriate to the day than that terrible, scorching, empty blue.

I never lived in New York (although I worked there briefly), but I used to take the PATH into Chinatown all the time. A few weeks before 9/11 I was on the WTC train making an anime run before the fall semester started. The car was crowded and while I had a seat, not everyone did; among the standing was a group of four or five sharp-dressed, Japanese businessmen and women and I spent most of the ride quietly listening to them all speak in Japanese and trying to pick out words I knew. (Because deep down I am that kind of otaku.:) We all got out at the same stop, me walking down to Canal street and them heading towards WTC.

A few days after the attack I was in the Hoboken PATH station; for those who weren't in the area, for weeks after most of the walls of the PATH were covered with Missing flyers for people who were never going to be found. One of these flyers were of a young Japanese woman in a business suit, and I spent about five minutes staring at it trying to remember if she was one of the people I'd been eavesdropping on in that PATH car. I'll never know if she was, or if any of the other people in that group made it out.

But I think of her every year, and of all of the other people I'll never share a PATH train with or pass on the street again.

We still remember.

I am just the definition of tired right now. Go ahead, look it up. See the little picture, the chickie with the glasses watching Colbert? Yep. That's me.

I'm still not used to this whole high-speed internet thing. Going from dial-up to cable, it's such a big difference I feel like I want to download the world. No BBCA on the IO? Not a problem! The interwebs will provide! No longer does it take a half hour to watch a video on You Tube! This is exactly what it would feel like to finally see the sailboat.

I'm bouncing in between two Heroes fics right now; one is literally three paragraphs from done and being sent for betaing, but has nonetheless stalled to a creaky stop that I'm determined to bludgeon it out of tomorrow. The other one I was having a problem, but I think I may have fixed the block by switching POVs. This may be progress. Hopefully. Maybe after these two Claude will stop hijacking my brain long enough for me to finish the Jack fic I've been working on.

Lost tomorrow! I'm so psyched. I didn't realize how much I missed that show until I started seeing the commercials. Nineteen hours until Locke! Yay!

Oh, and here's a fic rec, courtesy of crack_van: Forgetting the Nightmare by casirafics, Nine/Jack, R (which is harder than I'd rate it. There's sex, but it's not at all explicit). Jack settling into the TARDIS in between "The Doctor Dances" and "Boomtown" is one of my favorite kinds of fic, and this is wonderfully done. Sharp characterizations and a perfectly enigmatic, alien Doctor. Highly recommended.
