The true purpose of the Red Room is worse than anyone could have imagined. The morning after Death rises in Carthage something dark and secret wakes in the soul of Natasha Romanoff and in the blink of an eye Clint finds his stolen life collapsing around him. When the world is in the grip of the Apocalypse sometimes the only choice you have is to deal with the Devil. Angel!Clint.

( Sometimes, when the night was quiet and the building was secure Clint could almost convince himself this was what he'd been created for. The faint blasphemy of the thought kept him warm on cold nights. )

Oh yay, now I only need a Maria Hill icon to complete the Agents of SHIELD set (of the major players, anyway, and I'd rather have comics!Hill icon anyway - not that I don't like movie Maria, but comics Maria, especially Director Hill version, is a boss.)

Anyway, this weekend was a giant lost cause writing wise; I didn't make my word count nor did I finish anything. Ugh. Ugh. Must do better tonight because the DCBB pressure. The pressure!

Also, someone needs to write a story where Nat and Clint infiltrate Comic-Con to score those vintage cards for Coulson. It could be a multi-year quest! His birthday's right around con time (July 8th, I believe) so his birthday gift each year could be new cards for his set (Clint would secretly plant them in his locker to avoid fraternization rumors, at least at first, and then it would just become a thing.)

(BTW, fandom, I love you but we need to have a discussion about Natasha's name and how yes, Coulson calls her Tasha but Clint calls her Nat. He calls her Nat all the time! If everyone's calling her Tasha it only makes me lose track of who's talking, especially when I'm trying to speed read fic on my phone during breaks at work. Think of me and my addled brain, gentle fandom! (And on a purely shipping perspective, that the two men in her life call her by the two separate sides of her name is part of what makes me so gooey about the three of them.))

Speaking of things that should be written, has anyone written the AU where in the hiatus before White Collar S4 Coulson recruits Neal for SHIELD? (possibly because Peter calls in a favor, because you know they were both classmates at Quantico before Fury waltzed in and seduced him away.)

Well here, I'll reproduce it:

I hate this trope. Haaaaaaaate it. It was around before Avengers came out but I keep finding stories where joining the Avengers and meeting Steve or Bruce taught Tony the power of friendship and let him finally open up to another human being and then I have to close my laptop before I actually bang my head against the keyboard. How can you watch Iron Man 1&2 and come away with that.?! Even putting Pepper aside, who also seems to be forgotten half the time, Rhodey loves the hell out of Tony Stark (and I don't necessarily mean in a shipping way, either.) Look at that scene in the first movie on the jet, where Tony's gotten Rhodey drunk and he's rambling on about how Tony's better than all this and he wants Tony to find a higher meaning for his life! The man is not a lost puppy who never knew a kind word before hearing the word Avengers, okay?

(Hilariously, this trope actually works with everyone except Tony and Steve (although no one seems to erase Bucky from Steve's backstory the way they do Rhodey from Tony's) - Bruce has been on the run and isolated since becoming the Hulk, and Clint and Natasha's lives clearly weren't rainbows and puppy kisses before joining SHIELD.)

Anyway, last night I stumbled over someone defending this trope, saying that since Rhodey's (and Pepper until the end of IM2, which is another level of wha?) job is handling Tony it means that he was never really Tony's friend. And that in fact, Tony acting like an ass toward him is proof Tony never really thought of him as a friend. And then my brain spun around in my head and I had to recuse myself from the internet for a while.

So! I am begging all of you lovely people for recs. I don't care about ships - ship Tony with Rhodey, Steve, Bruce, whatever. Hell, put him Jarvis, which with LMDs can totally be a thing. Just make it Avengers-era fic that acknowledges that Tony had important, semi-functional adult relationships before encountering Bruce's hot ass (or Steve's abs. Whatev.)
