Man, I suck at posting everyday.

Hello all! Today I was totally an adult and mailed in my taxes (and crossed myself when I dropped them in the box that I didn't screw something up - I was thisclose to forgetting I had to put the sections of the W2 in the envelope.) Of course, I can't get too excited about the refund because the last time I took Lexi to the vet I found out that her mouth was apparently filthy filthy filth filth and needs a cleaning that should cost in the range of $500+ to $800+. Because veterinary dentistry tools are gold plated and forged with the tears of enslaved pixies.

(Actually because cats need to knocked out for tooth cleaning, because these are vets, not masochists.)

I mean, look at this filthy creature! Look at her: Behold! )

I'll start the TV meme back up tomorrow. Tonight is for TV catching up (are you watching Hannibal? You should be! And even if you're not, are you reading [personal profile] cleolinda's recaps? You should be!) (omg, last week's Doctor Who! Read more... ) and finishing the Arrow fic no one will ever read and then flailing around some more at my [profile] spn_j2_bigbang fic. (and fic reading for [profile] grasshopr_molly!)

How goes everyone? Tell me what's been happening with all of you!
misachan: (yuletide kitten)
So this morning I'm all set to leave, literally have him hand on the doorknob when I hear Lexi chirp behind me (she chirps. It's a thing.) I turn around just in time to see her pounce an enormous freaking centipede, knocking her water bowl over in the process because she is a creature of unparalleled stealth and grace. I managed to step on the hideous thing (it was on my boot, ew, ew, ew) but by the time I shooed her away and cleaned up the water and refilled the bowl I'd blown a good 10-15 minutes.

End result? Bug eliminated, but the delay made me literally two minutes late clocking in. So I guess you win this round, nature.

So I think I know what I'm nominating for Yuletide this year! (I sat out last year, I'd signed up for Too Many Things, but I had a lot of Yuletide Envy come reveal time.) Here's what I wrote in the brainstorming post:

Tombstone
Characters: Doc, Wyatt, Morgan, Virgil (easiest picks ever.:)
I think Tombstone is fairly well known, just not well ficced and it's one of my very favorite things.

Into The Woods
Characters: The Baker, Cinderella, Jack, Red
This is the Sondheim musical and it's both streaming on Netflix and on DVD (with a fantabulous cast.) Post musical-fic, with second chances at love and found families and picking up the pieces, please. (I wish!)

Warriors of Virtue
Characters: Komodo, Grillo, ???? (any of the Roos, really)
WoV is a late-90's kid's martial arts flick about a boy named Ryan who takes a dare trying to impress the popular kids and winds up falling into a magical world where he befriends a group of kangaroo-people martial artists who embody the elements of fire, wood, metal, earth and water. As you do.

But let's look past the plot, such as it is; I'm a huge sucker for Crazy Overlord/Loyal Lieutenant dynamics and this movie might as well have been made for me. The villains really do make the movie and even them aside, the sets and costumes are gorgeous and the world itself is interesting. This is far from the greatest movie ever made but I love it with ever beat of my sad fangirl heart and just want to see any fic for it.

It's also currently complete on youtube. Please watch! (and I'd like to point you all to around 48:00, where there's handholding and Overlord asking Lieutenant if his Evil robes are flattering. I am not even kidding.)

Anyone else doing Yuletide? Whatcha nominating? Whatcha offering? *chinhands*

(BTW, please, please someone nominate Left 4 Dead 2 and Human Target. I was planning to offer those but no one's even mentioned them yet!)

While I'm in a begging mood, [livejournal.com profile] grasshopr_molly and I are doing the Round Robin meme here and you should all totally jump in. Mostly because I'm blocked./o\ 2014!Cas has been kidnapped by Mysterious People! For Reasons! You can decide the Reasons!

OMG. CAT. Stop my heart, why don't you.

The repair guy was here today working on the hot water heater - guess who currently has no hot water? If anyone out there wants to do my laundry, that would be awesome - and when he came up from the basement to tell me what was up he left the door open just long enough for me to work myself into a panic that Lexi got out (she's gotten out through the basement once before and she always hides when he comes over to do stuff. I have no idea why, anyone else comes over she's all, "Hey, 'sup. Watcha doin'? You got any stuff I can sleep on?").

And she kept hiding for a FULL HOUR. An hour! And then she had the nerve to just wander out from wherever like NOTHING HAPPENED, all, "Oh, hey, you fed me. Cool."

Cats. I'm just glad it was raining so none of my neighbors saw me circling the house shaking a container of cat treats at the bushes.

I've been banging my head against the wall with this fic all day. Brain hurts now.

Have a kitten picture.

misachan: (Gus is one cool dude)
Last night after game I was all set to do some EDITING and then maybe outlining. I set my laptop up, opened all my files...and the next thing I knew it was five AM and my alarm was an hour from going off. Computer still on lap! I didn't even think I was that tired!

*sigh*

Should be fic tonight, assuming I don't fall into a coma again. I've got one more [livejournal.com profile] fandom_stocking fic left and this way my January looks super prolific.:)

This isn't a very entertaining post. Here, have a picture of my cat in a bag:

Cat in bag! )

I mean, I do, because he's terrible, but that was bad even for him. Ugh.

I have arrived! Lexi wants all of you to know that I am a terrible kitten mama who puts innocent cats in cages and straps them into big noisy metal boxes that go very very fast. Or anyway, I'm assuming she wants you all to know, since she did her very best to let everyone else on I-95 in on my horrible cat parenting by yowling at the top of her lungs like she was being tortured. Tortured, I say!

At least she did that for the first half hour or so. Then she settled in and took a nap. Incidently, holy tap-dancing Jesus, did you know it costs $12 to drive into NYC now? You'd think the bridge was made of gold and held up by strands of purest adamantium. They're not using that money to maintain that highway, I'll tell you that right now. I am so very tired. Also, the internet here is currently out so I'm typing this on my phone. Technology!

What happened to AO3? How can I make go back to the way it was? Everything about this redesign is terrible!
misachan: (aghast)
Remember yesterday how I said I'd woken up to Lexi threatening my B5 dvds with bodily harm?

Today I came home to this:

Loudest sigh ever )

That's right. She'd knocked down everything but.

*goes back to picking up Sherlock Holmes and LoTR sets*
misachan: (omgkitten)
This is Lexi:

Obey the glare )

You may not be able to tell from this picture, but Lexi secretly yearns to be a mountain goat. Nothing pleases her highness more than leaping to the tallest shelf possible and looking down upon her servants.

Lexi also yearns to be an alarm clock, like some kind of steampunk creature. If I hit snooze too many times she yowls and pounces and generally demands that I feed her and then depart so I won't be a drag on her wild kitten parties.

Which is a long way to say that the first thing I saw this morning was her perched on my Babylon 5 DVDs on top of my highest bookshelf, seconds away from sending them plummeting to a horrible, crashing death like some kind of fuzzy gargoyle of destruction and ohmigod, Lexi get down from there right now!

Wrote some comment fic last night (because I'm trying to do kink_bingo and have a July 21st birthdayfest deadline so of course.) Will post it up here after dinner, assuming I'm not compelled to rant at length about SYTYCD.

(Speaking of: I'm usually tweeting a running commentary during SYTYCD, @Gambling4Kitten if anyone likewise wants to squee and boggle.)
misachan: (Vincent Amy and the Doctor)
Doctor Who 2010 Christmas Special!

(I love that shot of the Doctor in the window.)

A Game of Thrones!

I may have to get HBO for this.

***

The Very Special Veterinary Episode of House that has become my life continues. Lexi's back at the vet's --- the internist is still confident that it's a vaccine reaction, and apparently she's doing better now that they've upped the steroid dose again, but I just want her better.

***

I've been stalking [livejournal.com profile] fandom_stocking and taking notes on what I can fill. It's not a cheat if it was a fic you were thinking about writing anyway, right? (And again, I fail at comment fic. A good half of the fics I have sketched out aren't going to fit in the comment field. Ah, brevity, my old enemy.)
misachan: (Cleaners)
I spent all of Friday so worried and guilty about being at work instead of with my sick kitty (OMG, what if she needs me? What if she gets worse? She could be dead right now omg) that I couldn't concentrate on anything, and then when I rushed home and burst in the door she was all, "You woke me up. What?"

I should never have children, yo.

***

Being frantic with worry all day did somehow help me figure out what I'm doing with a 5 things story I'm working on, so y'know. At least there's that.

***

Eventually Human Target is going to reveal who Guerrero has his kid with, but until I'm going to continue shipping the hell out of him with Mathilda from Leon. She's be almost 30 in 2010, which is still a tad young for Guerrero but she's so old at 12 that I don't have a hard time believing she could handle him at 29. And if we go by actor ages, Guerrero is right around the same age as Leon in the movie.

Mostly I ship them because they would be unstoppable instruments of death.
misachan: (J-E-T-S)
I hope everyone had a happy Thanksgiving/Thursday!

Sick Kitty is still sick, although at least she's back home. The vet thinks she had a bad reaction to her distemper booster from a couple of weeks ago and gave me meds for her, but she's still all sleepy-time kitten all the time and Gah. I worry. I've been poking at my [livejournal.com profile] 1sentence to make myself feel better.

Also, the Jets are winning won, which always helps.

A little bit more on this week's Human Target: spoilers for 2.02, The Wife's Tale )

Lexi has been lethargic and mopey the past day or so (not once did she jump up on my mantle to destroy my action figures), so when I walked out of the shower today to find her sprawled pathetically on my bed it was time to bundle her up and take her to the vet. One ultrasound later they're still not entirely sure what the problem is --- could be something she ate, could just be some infection, could be pancreatitis (you can imagine how much I liked that possibility), but to sum it up they're keeping her overnight.

This is the first time she's ever been sick. I miss my kitten baby.

(And oh God, I'm going to be paying this off forever.)

I want my Yuletide assignment. I need something to salvage this weekend.

*sigh*
misachan: (DW)
So here's the game my cat Lexi plays whenever she sees me on lappy: She hops up on top of the VHS cabinet, sometimes batting down the tape on top of the stack, and looks at me. Then she waits.

If I shift position, move to get up or just look at her funny, she then moves to stage two: the top of the DVD shelf. She sits there awhile, watching me, looking around, thinking kitteh thoughts. This persists until the moment she looks longingly at the much more fragile DVD shelf to her right. That's my cue to sigh, pick up the afghan and walk over; as soon as I reach the shelf she immediately flops over on her side, saying "Look, I wasn't going to jump up there, I don't know what you're talking about. I was just lying here being cute. I was here being cute the whole time."

I, however, am not dissuaded. I ignore her protests and gather her up, protected from the kitty claws of doom by the Mighty Afghan. Then I carry her around the room while she purrs like a fire engine. Rinse. Lather. Repeat.

I realize this sounds adorable (and it is), but trust me, this was a much bloodier game before the discovery of the Mighty Afghan.:)

Re the latest LJ gender fail: in addition to changing my gender in my profile to "unspecified" I also sent a message to http://www.livejournal.com/contact/?dept=feedback about it. I'll give this for them, they work fast. I had this response by morning:
Thank you for taking the time to contact us with your concerns. We understand that gender is not binary, and intend to respect that understanding for our users.

At this time, the code you reference is not live on the site, and will not become so in the future. We know that you, and many other users, have serious concerns about any requirement to specify gender, so we'd like to take a moment to explain events and our position further.

The intention of this code was to change the sign-up process to include a field for the selection of gender; that the code would completely disable the "Unspecified" option at the same time was deemed unacceptable. While the code in question had gone to our beta (testing) server, it had not gone to our production server, and will not do so due to this problem. Furthermore, we'd like to clarify that code posted to the changelog community is not always final, as such code must then go through the beta testing process and can often be changed before actual implementation.

Additionally, some erroneous information has been spread regarding the potential public display of the gender field. We would like to clarify that gender is not currently publicly displayed on the profile, nor anywhere else on the site, and there are no plans to change this behavior.

    Regards,
    LiveJournal Community Care Team

So good news? Maybe? Cautious optimism?
