“So what is this thing? I assume you're tracking me already, so this is supposed to do, what? Make that easier?”

Coulson was the king of bland, meaningless smiles. Clint had been talked at by a lot of spies and bureaucrats in his day and all of them tried that trick but Coulson was the first one who could really do it without giving anything away. He didn't know what the guy did day to day when he wasn't following him all over the globe but he bet Coulson was damn good at it.

I will never, ever get enough of "Coulson recruiting Clint into SHIELD" fic. It is my very favorite.

[community profile] deancasbigbang: It has begun!

(Apologies for the word count posts coming in the future. I flaked on this challenge last year and posting every day keeps me accountable. /o\)
misachan: (DW)
Man, I suck at posting everyday.

Hello all! Today I was totally an adult and mailed in my taxes (and crossed myself when I dropped them in the box that I didn't screw something up - I was thisclose to forgetting I had to put the sections of the W2 in the envelope.) Of course, I can't get too excited about the refund because the last time I took Lexi to the vet I found out that her mouth was apparently filthy filthy filth filth and needs a cleaning that should cost in the range of $500+ to $800+. Because veterinary dentistry tools are gold plated and forged with the tears of enslaved pixies.

(Actually because cats need to knocked out for tooth cleaning, because these are vets, not masochists.)

I mean, look at this filthy creature! Look at her: Behold! )

I'll start the TV meme back up tomorrow. Tonight is for TV catching up (are you watching Hannibal? You should be! And even if you're not, are you reading [personal profile] cleolinda's recaps? You should be!) (omg, last week's Doctor Who! Read more... ) and finishing the Arrow fic no one will ever read and then flailing around some more at my [profile] spn_j2_bigbang fic. (and fic reading for [profile] grasshopr_molly!)

How goes everyone? Tell me what's been happening with all of you!

OH HEY!

Who has two thumbs and finally managed to get a fic finished and sent off to beta for the first time in months? YO. *dances*

Now to finish the Arrow fic I've been poking at as a palate cleanser and I can dive into [profile] spn_j2_bigbang.

WHOOOOOO!

Tomorrow we return to interrupted memage.

*falls into an exhausted heap*

ETA: I forgot how I was going to end this! TELL ME OF YOUR TRIUMPHS, FLIST OF WONDERS! LET US ALL CELEBRATE OUR TRIUMPHANT WEEKENDS! (They don't have to be writing triumphs! You can triumphantly do the dishes!)
misachan: (Nat)
I changed the sheets on the bed, took the old ones down the basement to the washing machine and by the time I got back up the stairs Lexi was stretched out on the bed all Ahhhhhhhhhh. T shirt material sheets from Target: Cat approved.

Day 05 - A show you hate

I don't hatewatch as a general rule but my God, did I hate the recent reboot of V. Haaaaaaated it, and I wanted to like to so much because I loved the original. And it had Morena Baccarin and Alan Tudyk and Elizabeth Mitchell! I like all those people! How bad can it really be?

So, so bad. Glacial pace plotting, sets so badly CGIed you could practically see the pixels, a human rebellion so inept they would be laughed out of a Syfy original movie and set in NYC despite having a cast so white there were two black characters. And one of them was actually a lizard alien.

Bah.

Honorable mention to American Diggers, which I haven't actually seen but hate in solidarity with [personal profile] peachpai. And apparently there's a spin off now? Whatever, Spike.

Rest of the days )

From [personal profile] morganoconner: WIP buttkick: these are titles/brief descriptions of my active WIPs. Pick one and I'll write you 100 or more new words for it. Or give a sneak peek, since I'm all ~deadline panic~ this weekend. Order is completely arbitrary.

Note: Does not include fics already signed up for challenges (so adding those would make this an even 20 21. Missed one.) I'm defining WiP here as something I have a file for or went to the trouble of outlining. Which I have apparently done a lot, because Long List Is Long. Mostly SPN and some Avengers, which one lonely Heroes fic because I will write that some day.

The list! )
misachan: (Default)
Ugh, writing. How do you work?

Day 02 - A show that you wish more people were watching

ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN! C'mon, people. It is adorable and the first season is streaming on Netflix. Marvel high school AU! Coulson undercover as the school principal (and taking the job really seriously!) Fury being a BAMF superspy! Danny and Luke and Sam and Ava! Fantastic versions of MJ and Harry and Norman and Aunt May! There really is no bad here.

I really love this show and wish everyone else loved it too. I can't wait for S2 to hit netflix so I can marathon it the way I did S1.

Rest of the days )

Hello all! I feel like it's been an age.

Another Porn Battle round has ended (but fortunately [profile] salt_burn_porn is looking to start up.:) I managed to get three stories in the Battle which is less than I'd planned but more than I managed to finish any other round so I'm counting it as a win. They're already on AO3 since PB had a collection there but now that the round's over I'll start posting them here over the next few days. Two of them were for fandoms I'd never written before (and I admit, one was filling my own prompt because dammit, someone was Danny/Luke this round) and one was an SPN rarepair. So at least I'll manage to get something posted this month! /o\

Also, [personal profile] mizz_destiny tagged me with the icon meme, so I'll post that tomorrow.

All caught up on Once Upon A Time and I really want someone to write fic where Victor decides he's going to court Ruby like a Proper Victorian Gentleman and she's both boggled and kind of charmed by the whole thing. At least until she finally runs out of patience and deflowers him right there on one of the diner tables, because no one will convince me that guy knew the touch of anything except sweet black and white Science until he landed in Storybrooke.

I really need this in my life, guys.

This year I wrote and posted (in chronological order by posting date):

The List! )

Plus two DCSS fics that haven't been revealed yet (guess which!) and the Yuletide fic, also still anon.

Overall Thoughts: I'm kind of pleased there was only one month were I didn't post some kind of fic (March.)

Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted? Okay, I checked the AO3 stats and it's saying I wrote over 300K this year, which has to be a glitch. Right? Lord.

What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January? Obviously I didn't see Avengers coming or Clint/Coulson/Natasha becoming the OT3 Of My Heart.:)

What's your own favorite story of the year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you happiest? Man. Um. I was really happy for the excuse to write Dean/Cas/Lisa again, and AUing SPN with Flight Of The Navigator was fun. And writing crossovers is always a blast.

Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them? Don't Ever Look Back was my first ever crack at High School AU and I don't think I messed it up that badly (although apparently AUing the canon plot the way I did is apparently an unusual approach? I don't know.)

My best story of this year: Man. I'm bad at this question. I'm happy with how all the Big Bang fics came out, and I think Temporary Flesh And Bone came out pretty well. And Where Your Love Begins came out almost exactly the way it was in my head and I think the POV and ambiguity worked decently well. And I'm happy with how Contingencies came out, too.

My most popular story of this year: By AO3 hits: Don't Ever Look Back. By AO3 kudos: Guide You Home. By LJ comments: probably Exit Wounds.

Story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion: I thought What Stays And What Fades Away would have caught fire a little more, but I love secret angels more than most of the fandom. (Still writing more angel!Clint, though.:)

Most fun story to write: Teenage!Dean is actually really fun, so both The Second Hand Unwinds and Don't Ever Look Back were fun. And I love writing Lisa POV. And Nick abusing his staff via memos!

Story with the single sexiest moment: Geez. I dunno. The hooker RP in Let Me Show You How It's Done, maybe.

Most "Holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story: Where Your Love Begins. I mean, it's not even close this year.:)

Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters: I don't know it there's one particular fic. AU is always good for this, because you really have to strip the characters down to core traits to make it work.

Hardest story to write: Oh man, I was typing blood by the end of And A Star To Steer Her By. Sam POV! River! A fusion! Oy. I think it came out pretty well, but that was hard.

Biggest Disappointment: Flaking out of [livejournal.com profile] deancasbigbang. Absolutely. And I didn't get the Claire/Ben future fic I'd planned done, mostly because I'm reworking it to be based out of S7 instead of S6. And it really bummed me out to not do the past round of [livejournal.com profile] jimmybigbang. And the whole thing with [livejournal.com profile] avengers_xbb. Bah.

Biggest Surprise: Oh, Avengers. When I walked out of the movie I figured it would be one of those fandoms where I mostly just read fic but didn't write. Ahahahaha. Ha.

Favorite Opening Line(s): Clint had always figured his going crazy someday was inevitable.

Favorite Closing Line(s): He knows Dean would never hurt him.

Top Scenes from Anywhere You Would Choose to Have Illustrated: All of them. (I can't choose. Art for my stories makes me too squeeful.)

Story I haven't yet written, but intend to: The Exit Wounds sequel (planned for [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_bigbang, since clearly I need a deadline to get anything done. The carpenter!AU I'd wanted to write for [livejournal.com profile] deancasbigbang (planned for this year's.) More Jimmy and general Novak awesome. And some more how-Clint-joined-SHIELD fic (I have two outlined out.)

Fic-writing goals for 2013: Post at least one fic each month. Write every day. Don't drop out of any challenges. *fist bump*

BEARS!

Dec. 17th, 2012 12:39 pm
misachan: (yuletide kitten)
Last week featured an out of town visit from the ex which turned into a "sleep on my couch for multiple nights" kind of visit (awkward city!) and a game session on Saturday that I expected to last 3 hours but wound up with people in my house past midnight, which DESTROYED my writing time.

Oh, and I had a momentary lapse of reason and picked up a DCSS pinch hit (which is done, which is where the rest of my weekend went.)

You know what you don't see mentioned there?

YULETIDE. FOUR DAYS.

OH GOD.

BEARS.

(I will get it done. Just, you know. BEARS. I haven't even had time to do more than glance at my DCSS gift fic. Writer, if you're stalking this post I'm not ignoring1 I've just been beset!)
misachan: (Sentry)
I was lurking in the 2012 Yuletide collection to see what fandoms are listed and found out there's a to-be-revealed Dark Avengers fic. I didn't even know that was eligible again this year! Super excited. (Even if by law of averages it will probably be about Daken and not Bob or Norman. I miss that book.) I'm in the middle of writing my DCSS fic right now but I have my Yuletide story plotted out and I've been collecting letters for possible treats.

How is everyone doing? Making good progress? Like your assignment? Find any particularly juicy treat possibilities?

(I'm kicking myself over not thinking to ask for Gargoyles, btw. What a fool I am!)
misachan: (chibi dean/cas)
Is there anything more awesome than art illustrating one of your stories landing in your inbox?

NO. NO THERE IS NOT.

That isn't much of a post. Um. My father lent me his EZ Pass placard for my trip Sunday so HA! Take that, TOLLS. Especially you, $15 toll to cross the George Washington Bridge.

In less joyous news, this week has been useless for writing. /o\ Thank God I'm not doing NaNo. I will get my polybang draft completed and to my beta before I leave if it kills me and I plan on writing my DCSS fic during the next week, since I know exactly what I'm doing. And I think I've finally settled on what I'm writing for C/C, even though I still need an ending and it's scary because it requires me to be funny-ish. Exchanges are hard!

How goes your writings! Tell me of them, for I am nosy and bored at work!:)

So there's an unpopular fandom opinion meme going around, where you give a fandom and I (or, you know, whoever's doing the meme) give an unpopular opinion about that fandom but I don't actually think I have that many unpopular opinions? So I'm going to alter the deal (pray I don't alter it further!) and just make my unpopular fannish confession and invite you all to do the same? Cool? Cool.

Okay, my unpopular fannish opinion: I really liked S6 of Supernatural. Seriously. Not as much as S4 or S5 (my fannish sweet spots), but as much as S3 and actually a smidge more than S2. I really dug the way they structured it, with all the red herring plots while the Civil War/Purgatory overplot chugged along in the background until it exploded. It was dark and ambitious the way S6 of Buffy was dark and ambitious (something else the majority of fandom hated that I loved, so I just might not be a reliable source). I'm not saying the season didn't have problems - the Campbell arc in particular had pacing issues (I think I've said before that what that arc really needed was an episode where Cas got fed up with Samuel being a distracting irritant and threw him into an AU where his scheme worked and he got Mary back, just so he can finds out what a bad idea that would be) but I loved that season 1000% more than most of SPN fandom. The gut punch reveal at the end of Mommie Dearest is one of my favorite scenes of the series.

So that is my shameful fandom opinion!:) Tell me yours! (Or if you still want to do the original meme, give me a fandom and I'll see if I have an unpopular opinion to share. Or I'll make one up.:))

Fine, story, be that way. I'll just go make Clint sad until you decide to behave.
misachan: (Director Fury)
Oh yay, now I only need a Maria Hill icon to complete the Agents of SHIELD set (of the major players, anyway, and I'd rather have comics!Hill icon anyway - not that I don't like movie Maria, but comics Maria, especially Director Hill version, is a boss.)

Anyway, this weekend was a giant lost cause writing wise; I didn't make my word count nor did I finish anything. Ugh. Ugh. Must do better tonight because the DCBB pressure. The pressure!

Also, someone needs to write a story where Nat and Clint infiltrate Comic-Con to score those vintage cards for Coulson. It could be a multi-year quest! His birthday's right around con time (July 8th, I believe) so his birthday gift each year could be new cards for his set (Clint would secretly plant them in his locker to avoid fraternization rumors, at least at first, and then it would just become a thing.)

(BTW, fandom, I love you but we need to have a discussion about Natasha's name and how yes, Coulson calls her Tasha but Clint calls her Nat. He calls her Nat all the time! If everyone's calling her Tasha it only makes me lose track of who's talking, especially when I'm trying to speed read fic on my phone during breaks at work. Think of me and my addled brain, gentle fandom! (And on a purely shipping perspective, that the two men in her life call her by the two separate sides of her name is part of what makes me so gooey about the three of them.))

Speaking of things that should be written, has anyone written the AU where in the hiatus before White Collar S4 Coulson recruits Neal for SHIELD? (possibly because Peter calls in a favor, because you know they were both classmates at Quantico before Fury waltzed in and seduced him away.)

Yes, fandom. Do these things. *nods*

I've been banging my head against the wall with this fic all day. Brain hurts now.

Have a kitten picture.

I'm terrible at making icons. If it needs more technical prowess than cropping and throwing on a filter it's completely beyond me, so if any of you wonderful people can tell me where I might beg or borrow icons of the following I would be ridiculously grateful:

1) Jaqen H'ghar

Not that I don't love my Dany icon, but a man should have an icon, shouldn't he?

2) A solid Clint/Coulson/Natasha icon. (not necessarily shippy, but definitely all three of them together.)

They are the OT3 of my heart, you guys. It's been forever since a ship ran me over like this (believe it or not, Dean/Cas was a much slower burn.) And not to say I don't love Clint/Coulson on its own, because I do very very much (and Clint/Nat, too!) but the three of them together just sings. Clint and Nat need each other because they see the darkness in each other and understand it, and they need Phil because he sees the darkness in them, doesn't understand it, and loves them anyway. The three of them together just make me all kinds of the happy.

***

Let's visit the WiP list (ie, fics I am currently writing/plotting/have open files for)

1) On The Head Of A Pin AU where Anna's just a little too late and things spiral down from there. (this is my [livejournal.com profile] dc_dystopia fic.)

2) Jimmy and Jo in the afterlife dealing with the Fates. (my gen mini bang fic)

3) AU fic where Dean is a carpenter making a special order for a very demanding client. (my [livejournal.com profile] deancasbigbang. I've rambled about this one before.)

4) Someone slips up and SHIELD Internal Affairs hears whispers that Coulson is sleeping with his agents, forcing Clint and Nat to figure out what to do.
misachan: (sad cas)

Hello all!

I know I owe meme responses! Most of the past week has been consumed with trying to finish a fic that ballooned 3K longer than I thought it would be and frankly kicked my butt, but it's in the wise custody of [livejournal.com profile] aerilex and she'll let me know whether there's anything worth salvaging or if the whole thing should be set on fire. ("Kill it with fire" is generally my knee-jerk response the first time I reread something just finished. I'm sure some of you can empathize.) Either way, there will definitely be fic Saturday.

On a slightly related note but not really, my sister is celebrating becoming a Master of Science (that is legit what is printed on her diploma) by declaring JuNoWriMo (since she was knee-deep in her thesis last November and couldn't participate then) and I'm trying it with her, since I want to be a supportive big sister and I'm signed up for All The Challenges OMG. I've never managed to make it to 50K any of the previous times I've attempted and there's a very good chance I'll end the month an incoherent wreck. Just as a warning.

(On an actually related note, it's almost the time for me to be harassing a couple of you with carpentry questions. Please still be friends with me when the month is over.)

[livejournal.com profile] morganoconner is trying to get me to sign up for [livejournal.com profile] marvel_bang. Tell her to stop and that she's a giant meanie. (And then give her love for her BIRTHDAY SATURDAY!)

Wrote over 9K today. New one day all-time total. Still have more left. Why did I do this to myself? Why?

Seemingly now only type in fragments. Must investigate further.

Who am I? Who are you? Where is this? What is that beautiful house? Where does that highway lead to?
misachan: (aghast)
I just did count and I still have 14 scenes left before I'm done with my [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_bigbang draft. 14! And that's not even counting the one I'm in the middle of! *despairs*

(Is anyone else still in this thing? Sound off and share the pain!)

In related torment, the idea of having to cobble together an artist's summary for this makes me break out in a cold sweat. I have nothing. "Dean/Cas highschool AU that kind of sort of maaaaybe if you squint follows along with some of S4, except there's no Apocalypse and no one explodes" is just not going to cut it.

*woe and despair*
misachan: (SPN j2 big bang)
[livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_bigbang progress:

So. That happened. Just so my current level of tired can be understood right now, when I opened the file up this morning the word count was 13390. There were words today, is what I'm saying. Lots of angsty, teenage words.

This means I am now officially over the [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_bigbang minimum word count, even if I'm not at the whole "story must have a beginning, middle and end" requirement yet. But I'm at the point where I'm beginning to think such a thing may be possible! This is a very big improvement over a few days ago.

Also, Dean is a horrible boyfriend who stomped all over poor Cas' angsty teenage heart. *nods*

***

[livejournal.com profile] sncross_bigbang art claims were today and my story got picked! EEEEEE! There are more stories than artists so I'm just pretty princess twirling that I'm already claimed and don't have to sit and wait through the next round of dodgeball, you know?

(And one of the other [livejournal.com profile] sncross_bigbang stories is a Walking Dead crossover, set 2014!verse, with Claire as a main character. Paired with Daryl. I know, right? I could not have been happier when that one got claimed because I want to read it right now.)

Hey, you know what's a surefire way to jolt yourself wide awake if you're feeling drowsy? Your cat absolutely freaking out because there's a moth in the house. Thanks, Lexi!
misachan: (SPN j2 big bang)
[livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_bigbang progress:

Ugh, it's already the 12th and I'd hoped to be a couple thousand more words in by now. It's 15K or bust this weekend, I'm telling you.

On the bright side, I'm getting to the part of the story where the dramatic stuff starts to happen, so hopefully that will move things along. I did figure out how to structure a scene coming up later that makes so much more sense than what I'd originally been planning and lets me reuse some characters that show up right at the beginning so whoo! Sort-of foreshadowing!:) And I don't know how, but Zachariah might be a bigger douche in this than he is in canon. I'm actually kind of impressed.

(As a side note, this is the second time in three stories writing Dean as an eighteen-year-old and it amuses me how little difference there is between that and writing him at 30, levels of alcoholism and PTSD aside. Oh, Dean, I love you dearly but a shining example of emotional maturity you're not.)

Oh! I'd been planning on writing another Dean/Cas/Lisa story as a palate cleanser between finishing this and jumping into another installment of Dean/Cas and All The Words for [livejournal.com profile] deancasbigbang - Lifelines was actually my third go at that OT3: my first try wound up way too long for the deadline, bang length easy, and the second was a Five Things story with time travel that I could not make work timeline-wise - when today the solution hit me out of the blue. Apparently taking a scene from that first story and tossing it into the second fixes everything; it was an absolute lighting-has-struck-my-brain moment. It took everything I had to resist twirling around in my swivel chair at work and laugh maniacally.

(Alas, we live in a world where work doesn't allow one to just rush home to write. Have we lived and fought in vain?)
