One of my friends has a doll phobia. This episode did not help.
"We're dead. Again." Poor Rory.
This was a nice, old-fashioned, throwaway nightmare-fuel episode, more of a palette cleanser after the plots-travaganza of last week. It reminded me strongly of "Fear Her," the S2 episode set during the 2012 Olympics: lost child aliens afraid of being alone, powerful children creating monster from their fear, even the same ominous kind of ending. I liked the scene where the Doctor was talking at Alex, trying to work the situation out; Eleven, even more than some previous incarnations, really needs sounding boards even if it's clear that the other person is only there so he's not talking to himself. And I really liked that he just bluntly stated the problem: the monsters are real, the cupboard is evil and we have to deal with it. I feel like Ten would have danced around the subject a lot more and probably would have cut the father out of things entirely. Eleven just has no patience for that nonsense.
Loved Amy grabbing that pan.:) The Amy & Rory bits were nice and scary, and I dug the mutual, Oh, what is this now vibe they had going. Although clearly neither of them had ever seen the Twilight Zone because really guys.
I do wish there had been a little more clarity on why the other victims were chosen. There didn't seem to be much reason to be afraid of the old lady, other than her threatening to tell on George (and what was with her jumping to the conclusion that it had to be George hiding in the trash and not a cat or some other more obvious answer? We didn't see any sign he was mischievous that way, and there had to be other kids in that complex.) And the landlord was a threat but we didn't see George overhear any of that. It was very, "Well, that happened."
(It always makes me sad when jerks have such cute dogs. I loved that dog. His FACE! I just wanted to smoosh his face!)
In short, could have been tighter but some nice moments. On to next week!
Completely unrelated ETA: Writing 5.04!Cas while marathoning episodes of Intervention on netflix is weirdly inspirational. I should have thought of this sooner.
