I'd thought about doing a live commentary during the debate, but considering I spent most of that time shouting things like "YOU CANNOT BE A 'TEAM OF MAVERICKS'. THERE IS NO SUCH THING." "MY GOD WOMAN, WILL YOU JUST ANSWER THE QUESTION?" and "IT'S PRONOUNCED 'NUCLEAR'! WHY IS THAT SO HARD?!" it's probably for the best that I decided against it.:)

Palin's constant side-stepping of any question that wasn't about energy drove me crazy, as did her near-constant mention of her kids. She has an audible smile; even when the camera wasn't on her you could hear that she was smiling while she spoke, and to me at least it made her come off very patronizing. She uses the exact same tone kindergarten teachers use when they're explaining the alphabet, and the cutsey folkisms drove me nuts. Mostly because I suspect they're entirely affected.

It bothered me that in her answer to the question about Pakistan she never even mentioned Pakistan, instead focusing on Iran (and Cuba and North Korea, which hadn't even come up), but overall it impressed me how she managed to say absolutely nothing. My favorite was how McCain's administration would "promote the profession of teaching" because really, what does that even mean? And it scared me that she baldly said that she thought the Vice-President position should straddle both the legislative and executive branches, which is crazy talk. It made me think the post-show commentater who noted that she didn't promote McCain as much as herself and that she might be running for 2012 might be onto something.

And she still reminds me of a young Angela Petrelli. Just not when she talks, because Angela would never be caught on television saying "darn.":)

I liked Biden. He came off as knowledgeable and passionate, and I could see him running the country. He does have a bit of a scary skark smile going on, though (the man has some white teeth).

So all in all, no major embarrassments, no iconic "You're no Jack Kennedy" moments, pretty much a wash both ways. Now on to round two of the main event.:)

OH MY GOD, YES. I was just thinking this today. Weeird.

My mother keeps on saying that they shouldn't be allowed to invade a country without at first knowing how to pronounce the name properly.
