Hollywood is doing a hard sell.

Have you ever had a moment where you feel like Hollywood is courting you personally? That's how I felt this morning. Here, allow me to dramatize:
Me: Why in God's name would anyone want to reboot Nightmare on Elm Street? Especially without Robert Englund! What the hell, Hollywood?
Big Hollywood: Oh c'mon. Give it a chance.
Me: No way. That guy is Freddy. No one else can do the role justice.
Big Hollywood: Oh yeah? How about if we cast Jackie Earle Haley?
Me: I...um...but....
Big Hollywood: Roooooorschach.
Me: I hate you.
Big Hollywood: Mine is an evil laugh.
Seriously, JEL is probably the only person who could get me into a NoES reboot. I love that franchise; the first movie is in my top five horror movies and is easily my favorite slasher flick, and Englund's Freddy is one of the great screen boogeymen. I hate that they're remaking it...but at the same time, I think JEL could knock this out of the park. That man could make a scary, scary Freddy.
And it amuses me to no end that JEL goes from Rorschach to the kind of criminal Rorschach would most like to beat to death with a pipe. It's like he's trying to exorsicse Rorschach by playing his exact opposite.

sharpest_rose posted a stories-I'd-like-to-see-written list, and it reminded me of the Watchmen story I'd love the fanfic genie to write me. I want an AU where after he sets up Rorschach Adrian sits back and weighs his chances of Dan having an attack of conscience and busting him out before he's ready --- and decides that, as much as he likes Dan, that's a risk he can't afford to take. Only it doesn't work out quite the way he expects: Silk Spectre breaks Rorschach out, not out of any sense of fraternity but because she knows he's been the only one investigating the Mask killer and she wants that son of a bitch dead. I want a Rorschach who's savage with grief and Laurie clinging to her fury so she doesn't have to feel anything else, and as much as they dislike each other they figure out a way past it because they both love Dan too much to let this go.
This would be a book if I wrote it.:) And I'm not sure how Mahnattan's arc would get altered by the ripple effect, although I kind of love the idea of Adrian's plans unraveling because he's too careful.:) Bonus points if Hollis gets involved in the hunt too!:)
