My standard anxiety dream is being back at college and realizing that there's an extra class on my schedule that I've completely forgotten about and now it's too late to withdraw, or having a huge paper due the next day for a class I've never attended. I've had enough of these that in dream I can usually stop myself and go, "Wait. Wait, I've graduated. I don't have to do this any more..

And then there's the clown-faced juggler dream. Twice now just when I've been in that almost-asleep place I've dreamed that I've opened my eyes to see someone in a suit and black and white clown making up standing in the corner of the bedroom, silently juggling and grinning. I have no idea WTF this is about. I mean, I realize it's related to my clown fear and all, but seriously, brain. What the hell.

To clear that out of everyone's brain, a meme!

Comment to this entry and I'll pick up to three of your fandoms. You must then update your journal and answer the following questions:

1. What got you into this fandom in the first place?
2. Do you think you'll stay in this fandom or eventually move on?
3. Favorite episodes/books/movies, etc?
4. Do you participate in this fandom (fanfiction, graphics, discussions)?
5. Do you think more people should get into this fandom?

[livejournal.com profile] selenak gave me Lord of the Rings, Battlestar Galactica and Watchmen.

LotR

1) LotR was one of those books that I always intended to read but never got around to doing so. Possibly because this was due my sister's having read them and being driven to flailing hatred by Tolkien's writing style, but whatever the reason I saw the movies before I read the books. Wait, that's not actually true; the first LotR I actually saw was the Ralph Bakshi animated version which is... unique. (It's the one where Gondor needs no pants) And caused me to giggle inappropriately in the theater for Fellowship: the scene where they try to open the door to Moria is much longer in Bakshi's version, and for whatever reason the way Gandalf says echrol(?) sounds exactly like "eggroll." And he says it multiple times, flailing his arms wildly. Trust me, it was hilarious at the time. Anyway, when I saw that scene in the theater Fiance had to elbow me to knock off the giggling.)

2) It's hard to say away from LotR, especially considering how much of the fantasy genre shamelessly steals from it. There's a reason the standard way to introduce a ranger in a D&D game is to have him smoking in the corner of a bar.:)

3) Of the books? The Hobbit, frankly.:) I don't know if I can choose between the movies; each one has scenes I adore, although Fellowship might have a bit of an edge just because of Boromir.

4) I never wrote fic for LotR (stray notebook fic aside) but I certainly like to read it. And I probably discuss it more in real life than on LJ; I have a running argument with a friend who thinks Peter Jackson is a total hack and ruined the books, which I usualy counter with OMG are you from bizarro world??!?!

5) I'm hoping the Hobbit gets the fandom back to its former self. Or at least encourages some more Thranduil love.:)

BSG

1) I actually saw an episode of the old series first, although I couldn't tell you waht happened in it. Shortly after that the new series was announced and Dirk Benedict created that huge wankstorm over Starbuck being an icky girl, so I probably didn't get the best first impression.:) I did watch the miniseries and liked it well enough, but I didn't really get hooked until a friend lent us his S1 DVDs. Clearly the pimp attempt worked.:)

2) I collect fandoms like a packrat, never to let them go.:) I'll probably get around to watching the original series at some point, although I'm not sure if I'll get into Caprica.

3) 33, Unfinished Business (my favorite), the S3 two-part finale, and No Exit.

4) There's not a whole lot of fic for BSG, for whatever reason. I have a Nine/Kara scene I've been kicking around that I'll finish someday, probably as a Five Things fic. I tend to view BSG the way I watch B5, where for the most part I sit back and take in everyone else's thinky thoughts, although with BSG there's wishing that Lee/Romo was a bigger pairing.:)

5) I think it's a great show but a very grim show, and that will turn a lot of people off. And it's a show with very thick mythology, so it's a little like watching Lost with a thick layer of DOOM!! spread over it.

Watchmen

1) Like LotR, I'd always intended to read Watchmen but never got around to it before the movie came out --- which I'm thankful for, because good God, do I love that movie. And the comic too, but I'm glad I could read the comic as expanding on the movie, rather than seeing the movie and dwelling on what was left out.

2) You know how everyone has character archetypes they respond to? Watchmen has pretty much everyone single one of my bullet-proof ones into a single canon. This story and these characters are deep in my bones. It probably won't burn this brightly forever, but every time I saw that movie I wanted to turn right around and go back in.

3) Well, there's just the book and the movie, so....:) "Two Riders Were Approaching" is my favorite chapter, for the sheer amount of Rorschach and Dan scenes (the Handshake!). And while I can take or leave The Black Freighter short, the Under the Hood special is a gem and should be scene by everyone, especially movie-only fans confused by some of the backstory.

4) *looks at WiP folder, cries* I have a fic going out to beta tonight, in fact.:) Although a lot of the bunnies I get for this are for long, AU things, so my eventual output might not be anywhere near what I put out for say, Heroes where I'm better at keeping things shorter.

5) I want everyone to love Watchmen as much as I do. I'm aware that this is not realistic.:)
