Gen is just another quaint label

So if you have fictionally aware fairy tale universe --- one where everyone involved is aware of the tropes that run the world, like the prince always rescuing the damsel and everyone living happily ever after --- it should follow that villains, witches et al would actually be the most virtuous people. After all, they provide the conflict that lets the heroics and ever afters happen, all knowing that in the end their own schemes will be utterly defeated and they'll get nothing for their efforts.

I'm slowly but surely adding my fics to A03, starting with the short and easy ones and going from there. I'll probably leave the DW ones for last because there's never a "kinda shippy but not more than canon" label. Jack makes this especially difficult, dancing as he does all over the gen line.
Speaking of DW, I saw "The Beast Below" and have reactions!
1) I'm beginning to think I'm right that Eleven has a bit of Seven's cunning. The beginning scene on the ship where he was asking Amy what she saw reminded me very much of how Seven would instruct Ace.
2) I would get an action figure of Liz 10 in a second. (and interesting that Torchwood didn't seem to come up!)
3) I'm liking Amy a lot. I loved not just that she had that flash of intuition but the guts to immediately take action. She's very perceptive, not just picking up that the Doctor is lonely but that he's old. She already gets him.
4) Eleven has Nine's temper. And I liked how he responded to the Time War questions; he was evasive but at the same time he was brash and almost proud of his grief. Even more so than normal, I don't think Eleven will be the type to let things go.
5) The smilers were creepy. I have a friend who'll have nightmares from this episode.
6) That was a fantastic cliffhanger. I knew daleks were coming and I still gasped.
