Last week I emailed my beta asking if she was up for looking at a fic and because she's wonderful she said sure, go ahead. Then work got busy and I didn't have time to wonder why I haven't heard back (and obviously there's thoughts like "Well, probably it needs a lot of work." And I like to give a week, otherwise I feel clingy and pathetic.:)

But then today rolls around and I think, "Hey, it has been awfully quiet. Has it been a week yet? Let me check." So I go to my sent file and realize I never actually sent the fic. Because I am SO DUMB. *throws up hands*

Otherwise on the fic-writing front, over the weekend I had a dream that crossed over Human Target and Heroes and I've been playing with the idea. So far I have 2K of what will probably be a 4-5K first chapter. It's gen casefile, the kind of thing I always get ideas for but never commit to because writing a fic that size is daunting but I'm going to try to stick this out. I've missed writing Heroes and obviously Guerrero would know Claude, because Guerrero knows everyone. (Writing this is also helping stave off the will-Fox-cancel-my-show? blues. Hand to God, I've never felt this kind of anxiety about a show before. I don't tend to fall for bubble shows; virtually everything I've really loved can be sorted into "smash hit" (Lost, Doctor Who, Heroes) or "doomed from the start" (Firefly, Threshold). And Fox has burned me so many times in the past.

I'm going to hold off on going in depth on "Time Of The Angels" until the story finishes next week, except for this: I no sooner said the words, "Well, at least the angel can't get her through the screen" before it started reaching out to get her through the screen. Oh, Steven Moffat, you magnificent bastard.

I love River Song. Looooooooove her. She's the closest the Doctor has to an Irene Adler figure, someone who frustrates him and flummoxes him and yet with whom he has an undeniable connection. I even love the smugness, the sheer joy she takes in playing "I know something you don't know" with the Doctor (and it helps that she inspired one of my favorite Eleven moments to date, the way he looked out the TARDIS door and rattled off everything about the planet in that almost bored, "If I must" tone.) I don't know if she's his wife and I don't really ever want to find out one way or another, but if I were writing the show I know who she'd be.

She'd be Romana. Romana with a new name and locked into a human body, either by choice or as punishment from the Time Lords. That's the secret she doesn't want the Doctor to know yet; maybe she deserted from the Time War and thinks the Doctor will resent her for it. Hell, maybe she helped commit some of those atrocities the Doctor railed against during the End of Time.

River reminds me so much of Romana, especially Romana I; she was also very smug and sure of herself. And if would certainly explain why she knows how to pilot a TARDIS and speak High Gallifreyan.:)

I think she is Jack Harkness.

See, I thought of that (she's even from Jack's time!). I don't know how they'd get around the fixed point in time problem. The Doctor can see that; Utopia made it clear (to me, anyway) that it makes him look freaky to the Doctor. And she couldn't be Jack from before that, because The Empty Child is pretty obviously the first time they meet. Although obviously there could be some body-swapping going on (which would mean Jack definitely isn't the Face of Boe.:)

I think Jack tried to fix his immortality, and it turned him into a woman. Which is why the Doctor can't sense him. I mean, her name is an anagram of "Revs Groin." Tell me that's not a name Jack would have picked for himself!

(In DW it's all about the anagrams, you know.)

She reminds me of the Rani, a little.
