Summary: Another day, another town; when their bounty hunter father enrolls he and Sam in yet another school Dean thinks this will just be another town he'll forget five minutes after he leaves it. Things get more interesting when Sam befriends a classmate of Dean's and the lonely boy with the strange name and stranger family slowly gets under Dean's skin. Their new friendship gets complicated when it becomes clear that Castiel's brothers aren't just strange, they're dangerous, and the secrets they keep and the sins they bury have a lot to do with Dean. It would all be bad enough even without Dean starting to worry that maybe friendship isn't all he wants.

A Dean/Castiel high school love story with fist fights, movie nights, make outs, broken hearts, hospital vigils and a steamed up hotel shower.

What should have been a simple haunted painting salt-and-burn gets sticky when the head of the theft ring they've conned their way into turns out to be on the FBI payroll. With Sam stuck in custody Dean calls in Castiel, hoping some angel mojo might lead to a quick escape and Cas quickly finds enough bubbling beneath the surface to attract his attention - like hellhounds prowling the halls of FBI headquarters. Sam also finds the day full of surprises: when Agent Burke starts the interrogation the only questions he has involve a thick file all about Sam and Dean, a fire in a Colorado police precinct and how Victor Hendrickson really died.

Neal knows he should have slipped his tracker and run off days ago, when he first heard the howls. Now he's scrambling to keep his old crossroads mistake from bringing everyone down with him, and it's not long before Peter, Dean, Sam, Cas, Jones and Diana all find themselves caught in the web, and Elizabeth finds herself with a choice: rejoin the family she's left behind or save the one she's built.

When hellhounds come baying for blood, even angels have nowhere to hide.

Before I go back to coding and just because I'm wondering: What's the strangest/most random thing you've had to research for a fic? Right now I've got a tab open with box scores from a 2007 game between the Cubs and the Mets, because my stupid, stupid brain won't let me wing those kinds of things apparently.

On a related note, I believe artist signups are still open until claiming on the 7th TODAY. You know. If there are any artist types out there who might be interested and haven't gotten around to it yet.:)

I just did count and I still have 14 scenes left before I'm done with my spn_j2_bigbang draft. 14! And that's not even counting the one I'm in the middle of! *despairs*

In related torment, the idea of having to cobble together an artist's summary for this makes me break out in a cold sweat. I have nothing. "Dean/Cas highschool AU that kind of sort of maaaaybe if you squint follows along with some of S4, except there's no Apocalypse and no one explodes" is just not going to cut it.

Ugh, it's already the 12th and I'd hoped to be a couple thousand more words in by now. It's 15K or bust this weekend, I'm telling you.

On the bright side, I'm getting to the part of the story where the dramatic stuff starts to happen, so hopefully that will move things along. I did figure out how to structure a scene coming up later that makes so much more sense than what I'd originally been planning and lets me reuse some characters that show up right at the beginning so whoo! Sort-of foreshadowing!:) And I don't know how, but Zachariah might be a bigger douche in this than he is in canon. I'm actually kind of impressed.

(As a side note, this is the second time in three stories writing Dean as an eighteen-year-old and it amuses me how little difference there is between that and writing him at 30, levels of alcoholism and PTSD aside. Oh, Dean, I love you dearly but a shining example of emotional maturity you're not.)

Oh! I'd been planning on writing another Dean/Cas/Lisa story as a palate cleanser between finishing this and jumping into another installment of Dean/Cas and All The Words for deancasbigbang - Lifelines was actually my third go at that OT3: my first try wound up way too long for the deadline, bang length easy, and the second was a Five Things story with time travel that I could not make work timeline-wise - when today the solution hit me out of the blue. Apparently taking a scene from that first story and tossing it into the second fixes everything; it was an absolute lighting-has-struck-my-brain moment. It took everything I had to resist twirling around in my swivel chair at work and laugh maniacally.

(Alas, we live in a world where work doesn't allow one to just rush home to write. Have we lived and fought in vain?)

OH HEY Look who broke 20K this weekend! I didn't get any other writing done (I'm working on a fill for the WAFFathon and trying to finish at least one of comment fics I owe) but yay, 20K! I'm now confident this is a story that will be finished!

Also, the goalposts have moved from 20K to 30K, since I reached 20K without, y'know, actually being done. (*sigh*) I think 30K is reasonable? God, I hope so; I need to get this done so I can start putting down words for spn_j2_bigbang.

How are all of you? It's been so quiet! Take a quick break and tell me everything!
