So it comes out today that DC decided to boot Gail Simone off of Batgirl, a baffling decision considering that the book has good sales and critical reception. Why? Well, twitter offers a tantalizing clue:

Oh, and apparently the firing happened via email. STAY CLASSY, DC!

(I'm so upset and I'm not even READING Batgirl. I'm hoping Marvel snaps her up right quick and gives her a Black Widow solo title.)

So I finally caught up on LJ & AO3 comments for Possession, Indiscretions and Caught Up In Circles and added them to the masterlist. \o/ (I'm often a giant failboat about responding to fic comments - I love love love them, but when I open up the comment field to respond I feel my mind grind to a halt as every word I type sounds dopey and insincere and gah. But if I don't say anything I worry that people will think I don't appreciate them. And I do! And yes, I understand that this is like complaining I have too much delicious cake.:) It is really the best of all possible fannish problems, and I love and adore everyone who so much as presses the kudos button on one of my fics. *hugs* so please don't stop commenting.)

And I know I have comments on other stories to respond to, but at least the three newest are squared away. I've also uploaded my DCSS fic to AO3! So that's all taken care of.

Now the next deadline is Yuletide on the 20th, so I'm hoping to get that out of the way by the end of the week, then I can buckle down on [livejournal.com profile] dc_dystopia.

For [livejournal.com profile] morganoconner for the AU My Fic Meme, who wanted an AU of ...And Into The Fire where Balthazar did need all of Dean's soul:

Dean woke up with his head ringing and his chest aching. )

So here's the game my cat Lexi plays whenever she sees me on lappy: She hops up on top of the VHS cabinet, sometimes batting down the tape on top of the stack, and looks at me. Then she waits.

If I shift position, move to get up or just look at her funny, she then moves to stage two: the top of the DVD shelf. She sits there awhile, watching me, looking around, thinking kitteh thoughts. This persists until the moment she looks longingly at the much more fragile DVD shelf to her right. That's my cue to sigh, pick up the afghan and walk over; as soon as I reach the shelf she immediately flops over on her side, saying "Look, I wasn't going to jump up there, I don't know what you're talking about. I was just lying here being cute. I was here being cute the whole time."

I, however, am not dissuaded. I ignore her protests and gather her up, protected from the kitty claws of doom by the Mighty Afghan. Then I carry her around the room while she purrs like a fire engine. Rinse. Lather. Repeat.

I realize this sounds adorable (and it is), but trust me, this was a much bloodier game before the discovery of the Mighty Afghan.:)

Re the latest LJ gender fail: in addition to changing my gender in my profile to "unspecified" I also sent a message to http://www.livejournal.com/contact/?dept=feedback about it. I'll give this for them, they work fast. I had this response by morning:
Thank you for taking the time to contact us with your concerns. We understand that gender is not binary, and intend to respect that understanding for our users.

At this time, the code you reference is not live on the site, and will not become so in the future. We know that you, and many other users, have serious concerns about any requirement to specify gender, so we'd like to take a moment to explain events and our position further.

The intention of this code was to change the sign-up process to include a field for the selection of gender; that the code would completely disable the "Unspecified" option at the same time was deemed unacceptable. While the code in question had gone to our beta (testing) server, it had not gone to our production server, and will not do so due to this problem. Furthermore, we'd like to clarify that code posted to the changelog community is not always final, as such code must then go through the beta testing process and can often be changed before actual implementation.

Additionally, some erroneous information has been spread regarding the potential public display of the gender field. We would like to clarify that gender is not currently publicly displayed on the profile, nor anywhere else on the site, and there are no plans to change this behavior.

    Regards,
    LiveJournal Community Care Team

So good news? Maybe? Cautious optimism?

Actual train of thought while watching a commercial for Daybreakers during RAW: "Jaysus, another vampire movie? Isn't this the plot of I Am Legend? Only with more people? Who wants to see --- Oh hey, Willem Dafoe! With a crossbow! Awesome!"

Bless that man for never turning down a paycheck.

ETA: I made a comment on [livejournal.com profile] kalichan's journal that someone PM'd to say could be construed as victim-blaming and was generally made of fail. And you know what? They were absolutely right. Mea culpa. It was a very poor choice of words; any offense was not intended and is deeply regretted.
