So apparently DC Comics has apparently decided to squander what little good will it's earned with me by rebooting all of is major titles, renumbering them and supposedly making everyone ten years younger. Because everyone loved "Heroes Reborn," right? Right?

Revealed in that article: Grant Morrison writing Superman and James Robinson being rewarded for writing "Cry For Justice," truly one of the worst things I've ever read in my life, with Hawkman.

Oh, and Gail Simone is off Birds of Prey. Seriously.

If this cancels Secret Six I'm done with DC. Again.

In more cheery news, overnight my laptop charger stopped working (completely dead, not even lighting up) and my battery stopped charging, even with a new charger. Overnight, like they hatched some kind of suicide plot while I slept. It didn't need to come to that, machines! I would have supported your love!

So the whole thing boils down to me being out $55 for a charger that lets me at least stay plugged in if not actually charging. Because the battery is apparently in mourning.

In actually cheery news, behold my kink_bingo card: Image cut to spare flists )

*rolls about laughing uproariously* I do not believe I got some of these. Orgies! Bruises! Marking! A square that may as well read "Write wing!kink here, please!" It's not perfect (there's one or two beyond me) but I can do things with this! THINGS!

(Anyone who wants in on the kink_bingo action, I still have DW invites!)

I am appalled --- appalled! --- that there is no Romo/Lee community. This is a huge shock coming from Heroes and Doctor Who fandom, both of which have fic comms for pairings that never met in canon. I'd heard tell that BSG fic was fairly scarce, especially the slash, and man, you all weren't kidding. I thought the most recent episode (not to mention the end of last season) would have spawned some fic.

It almost makes me want to start up a community for them, until I remember I know nothing about community maintenance and even less about graphic design. And yet I'm still tempted! I love those two that much. I'd call it...I don't know. Lawyers in Space, maybe.

Incidentally, online reaction to Sine Qua Non has only driven home to me that I'm watching the "Flawed Humans are Awesome...and Also, There are Some Robots" version of BSG (in addition to The Adama and Roslin Hour and, obviously, Lawyers in Space, among others), because while I understand why those of my flist watching the Cylon Show had problems with the episode it really worked for me on every level. Avoiding spoilers, I tend to watch BSG much more for the human (presumed and actual) characters than the Cylons, and episodes that deal with their connections to each other and how they try to rebuild their society affect me much more than the larger Cylon arc. This often results in me squeeing over episodes dealing with politics and union battles, then going online and finding that the episode got a resounding "meh" from fandom at large.:) Not that I'm not engaged by the toasters, mind you; I just like the humans more.

Oh, and a word of warning: on Cute Overload there is a video of a kitten so cute it actually broke my computer, resulting in my writing this on a borrowed laptop. Sure, maybe it's more likely that the problem actually stems from lappy's chronic overheating issues and that it shutting itself down immediately after viewing said video was mere coincidence, but I say...yeah, you're probably right.:) It is, however, a much better story if I say that my computer's in the shop because it died from kyoot, so that's what I'm sticking with.

Sigh.

Yeah, I've done it again.

Last Friday I fired up my laptop to check my email before heading out, and the mousepad wouldn't work. Everything else worked, just not the mouse, even though it had been fine hours before. After the initial surge of panic, I handed lappy off to Lil' Sis, who's far more knowledgeable about these things.

So I come back on Monday, and the laptop's in the shop. Fantastic. (Also, the new DTV upgrade was not, in fact, properly installed or upgraded, so I also had no TV. All in all, a great technology day for me)

It turns out to be a hardware problem, the computer guy replaces a chip, all is well and good. I get it back today, mouse is working, all seems fine...until I try to send an IM. That's when I realized that some keys on the keyboard wasn't weren't working (the u,i,o,p,j,k,l,;, and m keys, specifically). Considering that I was planning on writing tonight, this was a bit of a problem (although being denied the ; key might improve my fic, if we're all being honest:). So I called the computer guy, and he walked me through putting the laptop in safe mode and checking things there, and all the keys worked. He suspected that I picked a up virus that hates my fic and that I was looking at a system reformat.

Crap. I shut things down, then turned it back on to see what I wanted to back up (my documents and pics were already backed up, but I have a good number of vids I'd be sad to lose) and...well, you know the sound an engine makes when it's trying to turn over? Or what the Tardis sounds like when it's starting up? That's the sound it was making. Then all the lights shut off and everything stopped.

I called the shop back in a panic and now I have to bring back in tomorrow. This is so upsetting. The machine is three years old, but I've never had a problem with it. It's like I'm getting three years of problems in one week.

I miss my shiny box of doom.:( Someone, write me some cheer-up fic. Peter/Claude is always good.

So Discworld fans, we know how there's a Death of all kinds of things, right? People, rats, etc.?

I am the Death of small electronic devices.

Which is a roundabout way of saying that I've killed yet another MP3 player.:( My poor little Zen deserved better at my hands; it never gave me moment's trouble and if anyone out there is in the market for an MP3 player and doesn't want to deal with iTunes, I can't say enough nice things about the Zen Microphoto. Just don't, say, drop it on a hard floor like klutzy me and you'll be fine. Sigh.

I should have a replacement in hand by Friday, but it's going to be a sad, quiet few days. I miss my tiny music machine.

On the bright side, someone at [livejournal.com profile] mature_heroes must have sensed my pain, because the current challenge is inspiring lots of "Claude molests Peter in public" fics, which always brightens up my day.:)
